Bricks - Austral Access Fawn or Austral Homestead Mushroom

We have been looking at bricks for a long time now... It all started off when we signed up with Urbanedge homes, and we decided to switch over to Carlisle upon completing our colour selection... There was a couple of reason but I think I will not elaborate it here... lets look at what we have in mind for our colour selection which is going to due soon... :)

Austral Mushroom or Austral Fawn or Austral Linseed?

Fawn on the left & Mushroom on the right, they looks quite identical in colour just minus the black spots of mushroom...

This photos above were taken from the sample brick wall in Austral brick, deer park...
Then we manage to get some address of houses being built with Fawn & Mushroom....

Mushroom & Linseed, Linseed seems slightly lighter than mushroom, but it has the texture on its bricks which makes it a higher category to choose from

This is one of the sample house being built with Fawn bricks....

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the sample houses built with Linseed. As we went along, we thought that if we would have picked linseed, it might cost us quite a lot, thus we have removed Linseed from our choice.

Austral Homestead Mushroom - Category 1a
Austral Access Fawn - Category 1a
Austral Harvest Linseed - Category 2a

To upgrade to Category 1a, I was told to expect approx $800.
An its an incremental value of another $800 for each category that you upgrade, meaning if you go for Category 2, it will be $1600.
And to make it more outstanding, off-white mortar joins will cost another $600 extra...
For brick neutralising, its an approx $600...
However, these cost depends on the size of your house and also if its a double or single... it varies as the number of bricks needed differs slightly...

hmm, still haven't decided yet, eventhough, we might be thinking of getting mushroom since fawn is a new range of bricks. Not quite sure of the variations of the colours though...

any suggestions between fawn or mushroom? all opinions & comments are welcome...

Here are the brick categories that Carlisle offers...
* Bricks that requires neutralising

  1. Mmmm...nice choices, but I'm a little biased!
As you know we have mushroom, but fawn was a close second and we chose it as a back up option (Carlisle make you do this so supply issues don't hold up your build). Off white mortar was a must have for me, so mushroom won to give the house a little more colour. Mind you, we're rendering the whole facade!

  2. yup, Carlisle did tell us the same thing, during our colour browse, to select a 2nd brick choice... the off white will make the brick stands out... and its just a lovely colour combination... since you are having such a lovely bricks & off white mortar, why do you decide to render the whole facade?

  3. To the owner of this blog

Hi, I owned a land in Featherbrook at Stage 21. How's your house building process going on?

I am currently facing the problem as you had last time. I am stucked in between UrbanEdge and Carlisle, and not sure which builder to go for. Been searching around in the Internet for reviews for a while and finally I found your blog which might give me some feedbacks about the builders.

If you think it is not good to discuss here, can you please email to me at howb@rocketmail.com .
